Just keep swimming

Before diving into (swimming...diving...get it?) today's post, let me start of by thanking everyone who provided feedback on my Monthly Checkup post! Really appreciate the thoughts, suggestions, and comments (ok, well only some of them, you know who you are)!

I've already implemented one of the suggestions with the addition of a new page, "Training Totals".  I'm now tracking the amount of time my training plan indicates we should spend on each of the disciplines and the amount of time I actually end up spending, plus the mileage that translates too.  Some of the numbers are a little rough (it's hard to track time when swimming) and I know the biking distance is wrong since I couldn't track distance on yesterday's workout (I used what I know to be my average mph on the bike and calculated a best guess for that one). I would like to get this info on the main page but was having some difficulty with formatting.  I'll keep trying though.

Unfortunately I can't devote the time I would like to this and other updates based on your feedback, although I plan to! More on that soon.  Currently I'm just trying to get through the week.

I can only make it show 7am to 7pm, you'll just have to take my word that my schedule both starts earlier and ends later
And what a week it is.

Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming
Just keep swimming swimming swimming
What do we do we swim, swim, swim
(Finding Nemo)

So bear with me through this week folks!

Training plan - 58 minute bike

My plan - originally thought I would do this week's 48 minute swim (which would have worked much better for today's post) but I couldn't make the work with rest of my life. So now instead I'm going to work out twice tomorrow...

Actual - ??

Lest you think I've changed

Anyone who read the previous iteration of this blog might remember my semi-crazy schedules and calendars.    While I haven't changed, the focus of my calendars/schedules certainly have.
I like tracking my workouts on a calendar so I can look back and see what I've done/how many days I ended up taking off/how many days of strength v cardio/etc. I've also always needed a plan so I usually sketch out my workouts a week or two in advance.
Speaking of needing a plan...I may or may not plan almost every minute of my week on Sunday evenings. It's just a rough guide. I promise I can be flexible...sometimes?

Dear Apartment, See you next month!

Across the next three week I expect to spend approximately 24 hours in my apartment...

Acceptable or a New Low?

I'm exhausted and just finishing up my work for the day. The last thing I had to do was get copies of a document printed for tomorrow. I contemplated putting my jeans back on but instead walked out to the Hampton Inn lobby in light blue (pajama) flannel pants, a navy blue tshirt and boat shoes. Acceptable for a Hampton Inn? Or a new low? If nothing else, I sort of matched?

I don't think the schedule above accurately portrays how much I need to get done this week and the limited time I have to get it accomplished within!

Pick a time zone, any time zone

I'm in Visalia, CA this week and I'm still undecided about what timezone I'm going to live in. With everything I have to do this week I might end up trying to in EST in the morning but PST in the evening. Right now I'm going to shoot for going to sleep at 8pm and waking up at 4am. We'll see what happens...

A week in the life...

It's going to be a long one! I have some time in the office this week but I'm flying every day for the first 4 days of the week. I can only hope I have better travel luck than I did this morning! I attempted to get into the office only to walk across the street, pay to go into the Metro and discover it was super backed up. I bumped into a colleague and we decided to try and taxi into the office.  We quickly discovered many, many others were attempting that as well. After 30 minutes attempting to get transportation to the office, for what would be at least a 30 minute drive, I finally bailed and decided to work from home. I'm leaving at 1:30 to catch a flight anyway!

I travel for work...this is not news...

Are kickball leagues popular outside of DC? Having only lived here since graduating I'm not really sure. I don't feel like I hear of friends from high school joining them...

Regardless...they're popular in DC and after 3 years I finally decided to join one. After paying the requisite $50 entrance fee I thought it might be a good idea to compare the Kickball schedule to my travel schedule.

Right. I travel for work. Excellent. Good bye 50 bucks.

As of right now I should be able to attend approximately half of the season, although only sporadically across the spring. Oh and I'm about to kick off another project or 2 (possibly 3) so we could see a few more of those Tuesdays disappear.

This is the price I pay for all those frequent flyer miles...my social life.

A week in the life...

Usually when I post my schedule like this I add a little disclaimer to the effect (affect?) of "schedule subject to change a moment's notice"...This week I'm not going to add that since my schedule isn't even defined yet! I'm pretty sure I'm going to Raleigh again, whether I'm going the 16th & 17th, 17th & 18th, or just the 17th is still up in the air. As is what I'll be doing if/when I'm down onsite.

It's a good thing I'm not one for planning...oh, no, wait...

One more week!

(*Schedule subject to change at a moment's notice)

One more week! I just have to get through 3 days of client onsites, 4 flights, drive approximately 360 miles, 2 days in the office and 1 (usually very fun) holiday party and then I have 2 full weeks of vacation to look forward to!

Unless I have to go to Des Moines, IA on 12/20...a very real possibility....

Going to be over before you know it.

Where did 2010 go!! I know technically there is still a month left. But I basically consider it over.

I updated my calendar for December today. The green flags are for work travel. The red flags are for paid time off (PTO). Between work travel, fun travel and PTO it looks like I will only be in DC for about 9 days this month!

I know this month is going to fly by! Fortunately it's mostly fun things. Today is my uncle's birthday and tomorrow is my sister's birthday (although she's celebrating it all week). I'm headed to Atlantic City for the first time this weekend. Our company Holiday Party is coming up and that is always fun! And of course I'm looking forward to a full 2 weeks off and the ski trip I'm taking with my dad and sister. Not to mention Christmas!! I've spent most of the day listening to Christmas music and I am definitely in the holiday mood.

UPDATED: Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Next week is going to be a busy one! I'm headed back to a hospital in NC on Tuesday. Usually we do it as an overnight but we're trying to do it all in one day this time around. And Friday I'm headed to NH for my first meeting with a new client. We will be back there November 29th and 30th but I'm taking the week off between for Thanksgiving! As always I'm excited to see my family. I'm taking the train up to my mom's family Saturday morning. We're spending a day or 2 there and then I'll drive home with my family. I'm headed back to DC on the train November 27th. You couldn't pay me to drive to or from NJ around Thanksgiving ever again!

UPDATED: I wanted to go ahead and add my schedule for the week after next...because I'm really excited about it. It pretty much consists of being on vacation. Oh, and getting my haircut...while I'm on vacation. Very exciting stuff folks. Other than being on vacation my plans include:
  • Visiting my old high school (and trying not to embarrass my brother who is currently a student there)
  • Going outlet shopping (and trying not to embarrass my sister who is currently employed there)
  • Visiting my dad's office to play with his new EMR system (because I'm a health care consultant/nerd)
  • Eating (a lot)
I'm pretty sure I'll throw some sleeping into the mix as well. Any other ideas for how to spend my week off would be greatly appreciated.

A week in the life...

* Schedule subject to change at a moment's notice

(Any one else having trouble coming to terms with it being November??)
